Process
What to expect, from the first visit to the last call.
Renovation is disruptive by nature. Ours is disruptive on purpose, for a fixed number of days, inside a sealed part of your house — and then it’s over.
Walkthrough
We come to you, look at everything, and listen. You get a written scope and a fixed schedule before anything is touched.
Protect
Floors covered, dust barriers zipped, one door in and out, agreed working hours. Your house is sealed off from the work, not the other way round.
Build
One crew, one continuous push. Same faces every day and a single point of contact who answers the phone.
Reset
The site is swept and closed every evening. You can walk through it in socks.
Hand back
A walkthrough together, every snag fixed, and a check-in call a month later.
The binder
Every job gets a binder. It’s the agreement, in plain language.
Before work starts you get a binder built for your job: what we require of ourselves on every part of the work — our own standards, written down — the decisions we’ve made together, the schedule, the price in parts, and what happens if something changes. You read it, we walk through it, and you sign it. Then it lives on site, and every decision made during the job goes into it. At the end you keep it.
- Our standards for each part of the work
- The scope, with what’s not included
- The price, in parts
- The schedule, day by day
- Decisions we made together, dated
- How changes are handled and priced
- Who to call, and when they answer
- Warranty and the check-in
Before we start
- A walkthrough at your house, at a time that suits you.
- A written scope: what we will do, what we won’t, and what it costs.
- A start date and a finish date. If either moves, you hear it from us first.
- Permits pulled by us, in our name, where they’re needed.
While we’re there
- Floor protection from the door to the work.
- Zipped dust barriers, checked and re-sealed every night.
- Working hours of [start to finish], [weekdays]; nothing noisy before [time].
- One point of contact, and a short update at the end of every working day.
- The site swept and closed every evening.
When we leave
- A walkthrough together with a snag list, and every item on it fixed.
- Your written warranty: [N] years on workmanship.
- A check-in call [a month] later, and an honest answer to anything that’s bothering you.
Questions people ask before they hire us
- Can we keep living in the house?
- Almost always. We seal the work area and keep a route through it; for a kitchen we set up a temporary one where we can. We’ll tell you at the walkthrough if a job is the exception. The Living with it page goes into detail.
- Who do we talk to?
- One person, by name, with a number that answers. Not a call centre, not whoever happens to be on site.
- What if we change our minds halfway?
- You tell us, we write up the change with its cost and its effect on the date, you sign it, and only then does anything change. It goes in the binder.
- What if you find something behind the wall?
- We stop, show you, and price the fix before touching it. Old houses hide things; we’ve met most of them.
- Do you take a deposit?
- [Deposit and payment stages — confirm against Alberta’s prepaid contracting rules].
